Kindergeld (child benefit)
Applying for Kindergeld for yourself when both parents have died
If both parents have died or their whereabouts are unknown, you can apply for the Kindergeld for yourself.
There is a main application of its own for that: KG 1a. It takes the place of the usual application, not a place beside it.
If you have children of your own that you are also applying for Kindergeld for, the usual application is added as well.
What the application calls for
Details about you, about your deceased parents and about what you are doing at present — school, training, study, voluntary service. Over 18 the same reasons apply as for any other child.
When the parents' whereabouts are unknown
This application applies then too. The official form asks whether public notice proceedings are running — that is the court procedure by which a missing person is declared dead. If you know nothing about that, leave the field empty.
What that costs
The price depends on how many children you are applying for Kindergeld for. The sample calculations are on the page about Kindergeld (child benefit).
