This means the income of parents and children together. Unemployment benefit and sick pay count.

Was your last Kinderzuschlag application already a short application?

Two short applications one after the other are not possible.

As long as one question is answered with “yes” or “don't know”, the full application is the way through. It is processed in any case.

How things go on once everything is filled in

The application is not submitted digitally. You print it out, sign it by hand and hand it in at Familienkasse yourself. You do these steps — no longer here on the screen.

  1. Print everything out

    Print out all the sheets you get here: the Kinderzuschlag application and every annex. White A4 paper, printed on one side. Do not staple or clip anything together.

  2. Sign by hand

    Sign every sheet where there is a line for the signature — with a pen, not on the screen. If Kindergeld is paid to two people, the second person signs as well.

  3. Pass on the sheets that others fill in

    Some sheets are not filled in by you. You present the certificate of earnings (KiZ 5) to your employer. Point 3 of the annex on the additional need (KiZ 7) is filled in by the treating doctor. Take the printed sheets with you and put them back with the application once completed.

  4. Attach supporting documents

    Attach all the supporting documents you ticked in the annexes — as copies, not originals. You may black out what is not needed. Without the supporting documents Familienkasse cannot decide.

  5. Keep a copy for yourself

    Copy or photograph the complete set before you hand it in. That way you can look up later what you gave.

  6. Hand it in at Familienkasse yourself

    Take the application to the responsible Familienkasse or send it there by post. You can find which Familienkasse is responsible through the office finder of the Bundesagentur für Arbeit: www.arbeitsagentur.de/familienkasse-dienststellensuche — enter your postcode there. The application is not sent from here.
